The challenge with this spot was to capture the energy and character of New York City and to make it look beautiful with only a small, fast moving crew.  Being able to secure veteran cinematographer Steve Fierberg as DOP (who shot Entourage) certainly helped. The other challenge was having to use real people (non actors) to deliver fun, natural performances.

The formula is pretty simple but getting Sam Kekovich to get his lines and delivery down in sub-zero temperatures in Europe was an art. One of the keys to this shoot was having fixers in each city to ensure everything was locked down while also having a small fast crew that could shoot guerilla style where necessary. This flexibility allowed us to get beautiful shots in the morning light at the Italian Forum, and to shoot Sam in the middle of the Champs-Élysées framed by the Arc d’Triumphe.

Just a couple of guys doing a tv show from their basement. The limitations of their world created a challenge in how to keep it visually interesting. The amateur home made camera switching added the extra element. Working with script frameworks we adlibbed natural dialogue in rehearsal with the actors to create final scripts that flowed naturally.

Sexy shearers and a bunch of blokes in their undies. The coverage plan here was to keep the reveal until the last possible moment to heighten the sheepish huddle. Key here were subtle performances and some simple stunts. A fantastic heritage location set the scene and beautiful lighting turned a rainy Sydney day into a hot sticky outback shearing shed.

Another little pre-roll spot trying to battle against an audience being inconvenienced waiting for their news story to start. Our plan was to present a strange moment involving a odd character without any context – and to drive people to the website to understand more.

This 15 second spot was created for internet pre-roll and so our aim was to create something that instantly grabbed the un-interested audiences attention. By keeping the story very ambiguous in the cut, and directing people to the website to see more, we pushed the audience online to help make sense of a guy faking an orgasm, in a deli in New York city.

Every girl knows about that time of the year – that’s right, election time. The Chaser boys were out to lampoon the coalition on their immigration polices and what better way to do that than with cute girls on roller blades. Sticking to the classic conventions that make up tampon ads, this was a nice opportunity to work with actress Matilda Brown who delivered a subtle dead pan performance.

One of the sketches from a pilot we shot in late 2010, this piece finds Captain James Cook and Botanist Joseph Banks returning home to an unimpressed representative of the King. Starting with a broad script idea we ad libbed the dialogue in rehearsal with the actors and brought the best stuff to set. The guys were able to deliver these ideas and more on the day and it was a case of selecting the parts that worked best in the edit.
